Located in Limestone County in Northern Alabama, Athens is nestled in the rolling foothills of the majestic Appalachian Mountain range. Interstate 65 runs through the city making the trip from Nashville, Tennessee or Birmingham, Alabama more convenient. Local highways and Interstates serving the Athens area are Interstate 65 and U.S. Hwy. 72 making it easily accessible to many local attractions and fun things to do.

Athens is home to many beautiful Antebellum homes, The Donnell House (a living museum), covered bridges, historic homes, festivals, and more! Athens is also home to Athens State University - Alabama's oldest institution of higher learning and the University is less than 3 miles from Key West Inn and Suites - Athens.

The city offers visitors and locals a unique shopping experience. The beautiful courthouse square offers a variety of unique stores to choose from and there are also several strip malls in town. Northern Alabama's largest indoor flea market, The Limestone Flea Market, is located between Athens and Huntsville. The market is open every Saturday and Sunday and it is less than 10 miles from our hotel.

The greater Limestone County remains rich in antebellum architecture. The trail is a driving tour featuring 24 antebellum homes,three antebellum churches,antebellum college, two antebellum working cotton plantations, antebellum post office and antebellum stagecoach inn and tavern.

The SportsPlex includes: 4 youth baseball fields (200-foot fence); 3 adult softball/older boys baseball fields (275-foot fence); one regulation high school baseball feld; 3 40-yard by 80-yard soccer fields; 5 60-yard by 105 yard soccer fields; Athens Municipal Swimming Pool; kids dugout play area with pavilion; and 19-hole disc golf course.

Athens Museum

Alabama's oldest institution of higher learning. The main building on campus, Founders Hall, was built in 1842. Local legend says the building was saved from burning by Union Troops raiding Athens during the Civil War when the college President produced a letter said to have been written by President Abraham Lincoln.

Alabama Veteran's Museum & Archives • 2.6 miles

Honors veterans with displays of memorabilia from the Revolutionary War to the present. One can reminisce or learn from viewing the collectibles that reflect the tribulations of war and the courage of men and women who fought for their beliefs. The museum is located on West Pryor Street and is housed in the old L & N Railroad freight depot.

Wheeler Dam was named for Joseph Wheeler. a general in the army of confederacy, leader of the U.S. volunteers in the Spanish-American War. Wheeler Dam was the second dam built by the T.V.A., Norris Dam being the first.
