Tuscumbia, Alabama, a small city of about 9,000 people, is located along the meandering Tennessee River at the base of the Appalachian foothills in the Northwest corner of the state. Wheeler Dam was named for Joseph Wheeler. a general in the army of confederacy, leader of the U.S. volunteers in the Spanish-American War. Wheeler Dam was the second dam built by the T.V.A., Norris Dam being the first.

The Alabama Music Hall of Fame opened in 1990 and is dedicated to over 500 musical achievers in all types of music ranging from rock, rhythm and blues, gospel, country and western, opera and contemporary. The museum features personal items, awards, wax figures, a live recording studio and much more. The Shoals area was once known as the "Hit Recording Capital of The World".
